Presidents report on first Committee meeting.
Hello Fellow Members.
I will try to keep members well informed of significant Committee decisions.
At our meeting held last Thursday we dealt with procedural stuff: appointment of sub committees((see below), authorising new bank signatories, approving the AGM minutes, amending the draft constitution as per members wishes at the AGM, reviewing the financial results for July/August and approving the 2024-5 budget.
That Budget targets a Net Profit of $45,000 before any major maintenance items (versus last years actual of $12,000). It will be a stern challenge to deliver on this but we believe it can be achieved.
We were very pleased to appoint Greg Samson to fill the vacancy on the board. Some of you will already know that Greg has considerable experience with financial matters in his own business as well as 17 years as Treasurer of the North Beach Surf Club.
The subcommittees are:
Secretary - Boio Sarahu-Hothersall
Match Committee - Sandra Best, Mike Gainsford, and Steve Gill
Course and Property Committee - Ken Williams, Richard Campbell and Steve Gill
Finance Committee - Greg Samson and Graham Heenan
Social Committee - Carolyn Williams and Nicky West
BTW, a special thank you to Carolyn and Nicky, and to other helpers, on a very successful and fun karaoke pot luck dinner after the AGM.
The Committee then agreed on the various major issues, both short term and long term, that face the Club. Not surprisingly, on top of both lists was the bore/irrigation water issue.
To recap the situation. ECAN have given us until June 2015 to find a new water source and we must be able to prove that we have made significant progress towards that by the end of this year.
We test drilled 2 bores on the course a few months ago (by the trundler shed and by the greenkeepers shed) and they were essentially “dry”.
We are now assessing all other options open to us and we hope to have a way forward on this in the next 2-3 months. We will keep you posted.
Other items on our “wish list” included upgrades to the bar/chiller and the women’s
changing rooms/toilets, and fixing potholes at the entrance gates (which regrettably isn’t just as simple as putting gravel in the holes!)
Whilst we have a healthy bank balance at present , plus our budgeted cash surplus, we have to be very mindful of the “elephant in the room”, The cost to fix our water supply could be very large. So forgive us if we delay these other projects until the cost of that project is more certain. Without water we essentially don’t have a course!
Lastly, on the golfing front, Mike reported that we have a full field for the 54 hole tournament on 11-13 Oct and plans (sponsors, etc) for the Senior Pro Am next February are going really well.
Entries are now being taken for the Men’s and Women’s tournament on Wed, 16 Oct. Why not sign up now!
That’s all from me.
Good golfing and kind regards,
Graham, on behalf of the Committee
