Message from the President
Hello Members
I hope you all had a fantastic Easter. The Club was very busy over Easter until Monday's washout. Turnover on Easter Saturday's was our best day in a long time aside from our big tournament days.
Firstly, on behalf of you all I wish to congratulate Brent Berry on shooting his age on Saturday - a 64. Amazing! His round included 6 birdies!!
It was great that he achieved this while playing in his family group. Michael chased him hard with a 66 and Nicky had 38 points. Well done Brent. I am sure that you will achieve this very special feat many more times in the future.
Our Management Committee met last week and everything is going well with the Club. We had a great discussion on many components of the 5 year Strategic Plan, which is due for renewal this year. We have identified some exciting opportunities ahead. We should be able to submit this plan to members in a couple of months time.
The Committee has recommended the appointment of a new auditor to review this year's financial accounts. Under our constitution the members must ratify this appointment so a Special General Meeting will be held before the club day prize giving on Sat 24th May. Brett Chambers has kindly put his name forward to be our auditor and the Committee recommends his appointment. Brett will be known to most of you because he has been a club member for close to 20 years. As a former partner of Deloitte for 20 years he is fully qualified (and then some!) to be our auditor. Formal notice of the SGM will be sent to in early May. We require 20 members present to make a quorum at that meeting.
Our Club financials (both profit and cash) are still in great shape and the gains achieved earlier in the year have been solidified.
Our search for irrigation water continues to be a roller coaster. Contrary to all expectations the drillers are unwilling, and unable, to cut into the casings of the HSTP&S reinjection bore. But we now have ECAN and HDC support, and consent, to drill a new bore adjacent to that reinjection bore on the RHS of hole 3. We do know that there was strong water flows in this location in 2012. Fingers crossed that it is still there! McMillans are booked to start drilling in late May.
Lastly, the new coring/drainage "machine" that was trialled this month appears to have been a great success. In layman's terms it pumped air under the greens. It was noticed that, even after Monday's prolonged heavy rain, the greens had no surface water. The greens are amazing as Brent's birdie blitz proved! Good job Steve and Neil.
Kind regards and good golfing.
Graham, on behalf of the Committee
